The Carlton is one of the best position hotel in Venice one of the few that you can reach from the coach station without the use of a river taxi even carrying luggage.
The hotel Staff and welcome is excellent. Food and rooms are of high standard . I would recommend this hotel to anyone .

The hotel is well located as it is so close to the train station and bus station. It is a very pleasant walk to the more tourist area of Rialto and St Marks Square

On arriving to the grandcanal we expected to see a lovely view of the hotel ( shown on there website) and walked straight past it as there was so much scaffolding and majority of the form had been ripped off already. One of the rooms booked was a grand canal room and of course more expensive and we were disgusted to have to walk out on to a small balcony and have to peek through metal bars and basically a building site. We also had a rude awakening after a big night out to be woken up to drills at 8 in the morning. When we spoke with the hotel manager he was increadibly rude and unhelpfull.
Overall inside the hotel wasnt too bad. not a 4 1/2 star but the rooms were okay and comfortable. the bedrooms were decorated nicely to fit in with a venician style but the bathrooms were a 70s throw back. All in all not worth the money.

Having booked a room with a view of the Grand Canal, I was concerned that the hotel was just across from the Railway Station and at the far end of Venice from St. Mark's Square. This proved not to be a problem. The view from the window was great and we were a short walk from waterbus stops linking us with everywhere. My only (small) complaint was that a large flag prevented full use of our balcony.

The most expensives rooms, on the Canal Grande are too much noisy to expect to sleep at night, and the view on the Canal Grande is in fact a view on the railway station. but the rooms on the patio are realy good.
