Firstly I travelled with a friend and was not a couple - we twin shared. It would be appreciated if that option could be included under the Guest Type.
This hotel was fabulous. The pictures on the website actually understated the room - it was better than pictured. The hotel is situated right on the Grand Canal in a fabulous location only five minutes walk from the Rialto Bridge and right near the Rialto food markets. We had a deluxe twin room with a Grand Canal view. Apart from the bathroom being a little cramped, everything else was fabulous.
The hotel has internet facilities (including a compyter) guests can use for only 3 Euros per hour plus a bar and tea/coffee available for purchase.
At the front of the hotel viewing the Grand Canal is a decked seating area which was great and allowed us to sit outside and watch the activities on the canal go by both day and night. It is the only hotel we saw on the Grand Canal with an outside decking area.
The hotel staff were absolutley fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. All were multii lingual and we were able to book tours and concerts directly from the hotel commission free. Included in our stay was a daily continental breakfast (good selection of quality food), a free water taxi ride to Murano island and a glass factory plus free entry to the Casino.
The hotel's location away from the tourist areas near St Mark's Square and the Rialto Bridge was really good and meant that we could go walking locally without being among the crowds. Admittedly we did travel in January (winter) but there were still a lot of tourists about.

We were very disappointed with the size of our bedroom and the quality of its amenities considering it was supposed to be 4* and we were paying a high price for the bedrooms. For the same cost in England I would expect a lot better quality and comfort. There were wires hanging out of the wall, wall attachments coming out of the screw fixings, the mini bar door did not close properly, the walls were covered in black marks, clearly because there was not enough room to move. We were on our honeymoon and paid more than we would usually have paid for a hotel, but we were squeezing past each other and uncomfortable. We moved to a cheaper 3* hotel in another part of the city and had a bigger, brighter and more luxurious room which we were a lot happier in.

There was a remarkable imbalance between the 4* rooms presented on the web and the 2* room (331) that was allotted to me. Only the rate was 4*.

I traveled to Venice the end of July 2010 with my two teenager daughters. It was our first time in Venice and we fell madly in love with it. The staff at the hotel was absolutely wonderful. They were very helpful with all my questions...including the one "Since this is an island, where do they bury people when they die!!" They provided room adapters for my U.S. electrical needs, made a copy of something I had forgotten to mail before I left the US and even mailed off my postcards:) They were very friendly and spoke English very well. After dragging 5 pieces of heavy rolling luggage through the allyways and up and down the bridges, we especially fell in love with the man who carried all our luggage up the stairs and then back down when we were ready to leave!! Since we had to check out before it was time for us to leave for Rome, they hotel provided a room to keep our luggage so we could spend the last precious minutes enjoying Venice. The public waterbus offers a 24 day pass and it is SO worth it. The water bus makes it very easy to get around. It's kind of like the "hop on...hop off" thing. You may, however, need to drop bread crumbs when you initially go some place!! The price of the hotel was very reasonable as well. I had really wanted a canal room but it was not available. I ended up being glad of that. Our beautiful windows opened up over the courtyard and onto a side alley. Although it was July, it was cool while we were there. The open windows allowed the sounds of the ringing bells around the city to filter in. It was heaven. The courtyard was very quiet and our view of the other building was so "Venice." I so would love to visit Venice again and I will stay in this hotel.

The San Cassiano has warm, friendly and very professional staff. It is in a great (and quiet) location and the hotel facilities are first class. We thoroughly recommend this hotel and will always stay there ourselves when we return to Venice.

The hotel can be recommended for families with small children due to the size of the quad room versus other Venice hotels of similar price we have used in the past. The only draw back we had with the hotel location if one were using public water taxi was the walk to the nearest station with all the luggage. Other than that all was good.

Hotel San Cassiano is absolutely beautiful. We are a young couple in our 20s and stayed in a double deluxe Grand Canal view room and thoroughly enjoyed the facilities as well as the view. The front desk staff was helpful in allowing us to store our luggage both before check-in and after check-out. We were very pleased with the breakfast, and the location is very nice. A little off the beaten track, but private and still accessible to Rialto Mercato, the Rialto Bridge and San Marco square. Would definitely stay there again for another romantic weekend in Venice!

San Cassiano offered a central point from which to explore Venice and an historical flavour with its furnishings and artwork. Having a room overlooking the Grand Canal made the experience ideal. I would highly recommend this hotel for its position, comfort and welcome. Extras like free internet access was appreciated and breakfast was quite substantial.
